This tip works in Windows XP using MSN Messenger 4.5 or 4.6. MSN Messenger loads automatically whenever you visit Hotmail or any other related Microsoft web sites. You can stop this from happening by clicking on the Start button and selecting Run. Type in 'regedit' and press OK. Look for this string:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{F3A614DC-ABE0-11d2-A441-00C04F795683}
Delete the 'String Value' that contains 'MSMSGS.EXE' and click OK. MSN Messenger will now stop loading when visiting one of these web sites.
